"The Runaway"

America in the 1950's was full of prejudiced and inequality towards blacks. The black citizens were not allowed to eat, drink, go to school with the white citizens. The citizens in America at this time did not put blacks on the same level as whites because they came to America as slaves. Rockewell's "the Runaway" overlooks the fundamental rift that was rising in America throughout the 1950's- an emerging counter culture that was not concerned with how things were in America, but rather how things are.
